A new generation of our guidance system

13. 5. 2025

Of the recent innovations that the field of drone technology is constantly undergoing, perhaps the most interesting one is the brand new generation of a detection and guidance system. This system has been designed to detect, locate and follow several different flying objects in real-life scenarios, thus embodying the key role of a drone hunter.

Our research team is constantly working to push the EAGLE.ONE drones forward. Among lots of various tests, simulations and many other experiments and methods that have been applied, we would like to highlight the FRPN (Fast Response Proportional Navigation) method. Thanks to this method, our drone hunter was able to catch an unwanted intruder in any trajectory that the object was moving along. In testing, this method of ours was compared to other, commonly used methods that drones use to predict how an unwanted object may move next.

As illustrated in the table III, the FRPN method appears to be the most effective due to its short response time, even compared to the GPN methods, which also proved to be capable of trapping, the reaction time of our drone was shorter by a few seconds. Another remarkable fact that emerged from the first experiment itself is that the accuracy of FRPN is significantly better (0.04 m vs. 0.25 m of GPN), by 84%! Thus, not only is our method the fastest, but it is also the most accurate already in the first experiment, which can be considered as the most essential one. In addition, another simulation, which result is summarized in the table IV, shows that FRPN comes out as the most accurate one out of all the methods, although significantly more experiments were performed using this method rather than the other systems.

The picture III illustrates a comparison of the number of trials and the quality of their execution. Specifically, it compares our FRPN method with the GPN method, which did not have downright poor results. Each point on the trajectory marks the moment when an intruder was detected. The color of this point then indicates with what accuracy.

Therefore, we can say that a system using the FRPN method will have a higher success rate in capturing unwanted airspace intruders. Not only shall the reaction time of the drone hunter be in the matter of seconds, but it will be able to locate the intruder with an accuracy of less than a meter, which significantly increases the success rate of the capture by our one-and-only EAGLE.ONE hunter.
